So I am going to talk to you about something that was a HUGE game changer in my life BUFFERING.

Now a lot of people ask me what is buffering and why do I call it this. So let me explain.
You know when you are on the computer and you get that wheel and its called buffering that is exactly what I did for over 20 years of my life I buffered and I was at a stand still basically spinning my wheels and NOT fully experiencing life because I was checked out. Yup I was out to lunch on life.

See I never ever wanted to experience a negative emotion so I buffered..

I buffered with food
I buffered with alcohol
I buffered with shopping
I buffered with pills drugs
I buffered with smoking
Any of this sound familiar?

Buffering is basically a way of tuning out to our lives because we don’t want to feel a negative emotion.  We basically feel we need to be happy all the time because we are constantly bombarded with ways to feel pleasure and now more than ever its all about instant gratification.

I mean phones today are designed to give us a hit of dopamine every time we get a notification or a text. Its a proven fact no wonder we are all on our phones! Food is designed to give us a hit of dopamine like for reals the chemicals and sugars in our foods are designed to make us keep eating them. This is by design more consumption = more dollars. I mean would you ever eat a whole bag of apples never! But a bag of oreos easy peezy!

So I will tell you with food for me personally this is how it worked. I would feel bored anxious or frustrated and boom I would feel the need to eat. I would get that hit of dopamine and feel that relief I was looking for that ahhhhh feeling now its better. Can you identify and it can be food, drinking, shopping, men anything really. But that temporary relief led me to so many other emotions, regret shame etc.

So How Do Conquer This is With Constraint

Think about it for example with marriage. We constrain ourselves to being with one person.
right? This gives us the freedom from the chatter in our brains. We don’t have to worry about other men or dating or whatever its just not an option. For me its all about freedom in my brain.

For example by keeping my diet basically the same and following the same patterns and rituals around food. I am now able to focus on so many other areas of my life. I eat the same way. I weigh the same weight and life just feels good. Theres no more chatter in my brain the negotiating this for that the procrastination of Ill start tomorrow. For me constraint gives me freedom 100%. I remember thinking that less pleasure meant less fun. But this is me now. I can go to a party I don’t overeat. I don’t over drink and I am completely present. Before I could never ever imagine that even being a possibility. Yet it is better that anything I have ever experienced.

NOW don’t get me wrong. I am not one to really go to that many parties either, but I have the freedom to go anywhere and do anything and be completely present. Now nothing feels better than that!

So if you are struggling with your weight, drinking, shopping, or any other false pleasure. I just want you to know that you can change. I mean If I did you can too! Its truly all about mindset and looking at your habits that are holding you back from what you really want.

I will tell you this giving up false pleasures gave me the best pleasure of WELL BEING!

So if you are looking to change anything this year really be open to looking at what is holding you back. Is it that glass of wine thats turning into 3. Is it eating the chips every night while Facebooking. Is it taking that xanax every night to sleep. I don’t know what it is for you, but I do know you CAN stop it and I do know that if you are willing to change it and go through that process you will absolutely love the person you become on the other side.
